Description |
NGC 1097 is a fine, barred spiral
and unusual in various ways. It is a Seyfert type radio source galaxy with
a very bright, active nucleus. It also emits strongly in the infrared,
indicating the presence of warm dust. Finally, there is interaction with
the small elliptical companion galaxy NGC 1097A to the NW (upper
right), the result of which is readily apparent in the image. North
is up and the field of view is 15 x 10 arcminutes. |
